GDP growth in Hungary will accelerate slightly to 2.6% in 2017 from an estimated 2.1% in 2016, the WB projected in its updated Global Economic Prospects report. The growth projection for this year was raised slightly by 0.2pps despite the weaker-than-expected performance in 2016, the report showed. The positive revision likely stemmed from the government’s wage and tax measures in late 2016, in our opinion. The WB only said that growth was expected to benefit from the resumption of EU fund absorption going forward. It projected GDP growth to accelerate further to 2.8% in 2018 and 2.7% in 2019.
