The annual survey by the Swedish firm Universum monitored the feelings of 250,000 employees in 57 countries, focusing on three segments: people’s satisfaction in their current job, the probability that they would recommend their employer to others, and loyalty, i.e. whether the employee wants to change his/her job in the near future. Employees in Denmark rated top in terms of work satisfaction, followed by Norway and Costa Rica.

The Czech Republic was placed ahead of countries such as Germany, Switzerland, France and the US.

Although Czech employees currently have incomparably lower salaries than those in neighboring Germany, job security is high and with a 5 per cent unemployment rate – the lowest in the EU –many employers are offering perks and various benefits, such as longer paid leave, to potential employees.

According to a poll conducted by the TNS Aisa agency 65 per cent of Czech employees feel totally secure in their present position, 27 per cent feel quite secure. 82 per cent of respondents expressed overall satisfaction with their employer, 74 per cent expressed satisfaction with their employers work attitude and leadership qualities.

Seventy per cent of respondents said they had been given a raise in the last three years and 44 per cent of those polled said their purchasing power had grown irrespective of whether they had received a raise or not. The average monthly wage in the Czech Republic is CZK27,220, although only a third of employees achieve that salary level. As of 2017 the minimal income per month is to be raised by CZK1,100 to CZK11,000.

Romanian employees happy in current job

Meanwhile, in Romania over 61 per cent of the employees who participated in a study conducted by local recruiting platform eJobs.ro, said that are happy at their current job.

The survey, which is part of #HappyLaJob campaign, was carried out online on the eJobs platform. More than 123,000 Romanians, including employees, entrepreneurs, company managers, and bloggers answered a series of questions in October-November 2016.

The questionnaire started with the question “Are you Happy?” to which 65 per cent of respondents gave a positive answer. Contentment at work was assessed via five main pillars of happiness in professional life, namely passion, honesty, balance between personal and professional life, the activity’s impact within the company, and career evolution.

Thus, a total of 68 per cent of respondents said they are passionate about their jobs. Some 56 per cent stated that there is transparency at their workplace, 63 per cent said that they manage to find a healthy balance between professional and personal life and 70 per cent feel that their work makes a difference in the company or society. Also, 46 per cent said that they have the necessary opportunities to evolve at work.

Overall, 26 per cent of respondents said that they are completely happy at work, from all points of view, while fewer than 10 per cent gave negative answers to all questions.

Among those who said they’ve found a balance between the professional life and the personal one, four in ten stated that they would like their work to have a greater impact in the company or society. Also, a third of those who don’t see their work’s impact are still very passionate about their jobs.

Launched in 1999, eJobs is currently the largest online recruiting platform in Romania, with more than 3.3 million professionals connected to the labor market, and nearly 30,000 active jobs. eJobs Group is part of Ringier Romania Group, a member of Swiss media group Ringier AG.
