The 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24) should end today. There is an expectation that the representatives of the countries will work out and approve the implementation guidelines for the so-called Paris Agreement. 

Politicians and experts discussed ways “of limiting emissions from heating systems to mitigate climate change,” the Polish Radio informs. During a lecture entitled “District Heating as an Effective Tool for Improving Air Quality” Mr. Jacek Szymczak, an expert, said that Poland “needed to tackle the problem of old and inefficient stoves in many homes, one of the main reasons of smog in the country”.

Ukraine

The European Union opened the first tranche of the EU macro financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of EUR500m — the Interfax reports. The total value of the assistance provided by the EU to Ukraine since 2014 will be EUR3.3bn (including the current tranche). According to Interfax it’s the largest amount of such assistance directed at any non-EU country.

The information was announced by Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commission Vice-President for the Euro and Social Dialogue. Ukraine has already “fulfilled the policy commitments agreed with the EU for the release of the first payment under the program”.

Bulgaria

According to the study conducted by the AFIS agency, Bulgarians claim that the level of corruption increased in Bulgaria. 58 per cent of respondents think that the level of corruption is growing, and only 11 per cent said that it decreased. 32 per cent said it’s at the same level.

Novinite.com points out that since spring 2018, “there has been a sharp increase in the publicly visible fight against corruption. Proceedings were brought against persons who became known in the era of the Great Privatization, such as Banev, Arabadzhievi, Staikov, and inspectors and municipal mayor were arrested on suspicion of extortion for bribery”.
