According to Poland’s central bank, National Bank of Poland (NBP), the number of people taking mortgages is growing. As reported by the Polish Radio, the number of “mortgage seekers is constantly on the rise despite stricter bank criteria for granting such loans”. The radio quotes Mr. Piotr Kasprzak from NBP, who said that this was due to a strong economy growth, falling unemployment, increase of salaries and job security. The Polish Radio points out that still there is a shortage of 3 million housing units in Poland.

According to Statistics Poland, in the first half of 2018 the number of homes completed was up 6.3 per cent y/y. In August 2018 Poland’s President Andrzej Duda signed a bill that aims to speed up the construction of new homes.

Serbia

Serbia will invite a Chinese company to work on a construction of an industrial park for fruits and vegetables. As the SEE News Corporate Wire informs, the country has already signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese government. Now China’s ambassador to Serbia, Li Manchang, informs that five Chinese companies expressed their interest in the project.

As reported, under the agreement “Serbia and China shall jointly push forward the development of a fruit and vegetables industrial park, take advantages of the convenient transportation and infrastructure of the Hungary-Serbia railway and will set up a joint coordinating committee to inform both parties on the achieved progress every six month”.

Croatia

There is no agreement between the management at Croatia Airlines (CA) and ORCA union, representing pilots, flight attendants and aviomechanics — the portal Total Croatia News informs.

The unions demand higher salaries, a new collective agreement and less overtime work assigned to employees. The management’s proposition of an increase in salaries of 2.5 per cent was rejected by ORCA. The representatives of the union announced the strike will start Wednesday, August 8th at 6 a.m.

According to CA’s management the strike would cause losses of EUR800,000 a day and would affect as many as 7,000 passengers.
