“Romania has chances to be admitted this year into the Schengen area, but only with its airports, and a decision may be expected at the forthcoming Brussels summit. Diplomatic missions, especially Brussels, have worked very well,” Romanian Ambassador to Germany, Emil Hurezeanu said, as Digi24 news channel informed.

The European Parliament (EP) adopted on December 2018 a non-legislative report calling for admission of Romania and Bulgaria as full members in the Schengen area. Bulgaria

The first sod of the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector will be made in the village of Kirkovo by May 20th. “Everything is being prepared, the project is extremely important for the diversification of gas supplies,” Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said. The pipeline will connect the Greek gas transmission system in the area of Komotini to the Bulgarian gas transmission system in the area of Stara Zagora.

The planned length of the pipeline is 182 km and the projected capacity will be up to 3 billion cubic meters (bcm) per year. Depending on interest from the market and the capacities of the neighboring gas transmission systems, the capacity of the pipeline can be increased up to 5 bcm per year, thus allowing physical reverse flow from Bulgaria to Greece with the additional installation of a compressor station.

The gas link is estimated to cost EUR220m.
