“As the governor I will respect and defend the independence of the central bank. I will also defend the value of the Polish złoty but I will not forget about the support of government’s economic policies, as long as they are not against the stability of prices,” he said.

“I plan to cooperate with all state institutions in order to preserve stability of the financial system and prevent risks that may exist within the system. Monetary and financial stability are key elements of a stable economy. I’m convinced that maintaining this stability will allow a sustainable development and economic growth, and – as a result – better welfare for Poles,” he added.

Prof. Adam Glapiński graduated from the Central School of Planning and Statistics (SGPiS) (currently, Warsaw School of Economics). He is a member of the Management Board of Narodowy Bank Polski. He is also an associate professor at the Collegium of Management and Finance of the Warsaw School of Economics. From 2010 to February 2016 Prof. Adam Glapiński was a member of the Monetary Policy Council.

Since the beginning of the 1990s, he has held numerous important functions in public administration. In 1991, Minister of Construction and Spatial Planning in the Government led by Jan K. Bielecki. In 1992, Minister of Foreign Economic Relations in the Government led by Jan Olszewski. Deputy to the Sejm of the Republic of Poland of the First Term (1991-1993) and senator of the Senate of the Republic of Poland of the Fourth Term (1997-2001), where he served as Deputy Chairman of the National Economy Committee. He was also a member of the EU-Poland Joint Parliamentary Committee.
