BiH population may shrink by 1.3 million people by 2100

If the current trends of falling birth rates and mass leaving of population are preserved, BiH may lose half a million of its population by 2050, local media reported citing an UN report. The 2013 population census showed that the overall population of BiH has dropped by nearly 20% to 3.531 million people. The UN World Population Prospects report projects that the country’s population would decrease to 3.058 million in 2050 and decline further to 2.217 million in 2100. In the long run the decrease of the population will lead to shortage of labor, fall in completion, lower savings and consumption as well as lower investments and slower economic growth, media wrote.
