BiH’s public debt falls by 6.2% y/y to KM11.35bn at end-2017

BiH’s public debt fell by KM744.59m or 6.2% y/y to KM11.35bn at end-December, BiH Finance Minister Vjekoslav Bevanda told the news agency Srna. External debt amounted to KM 7.85bn (down by KM695.6m or 8.1% y/y), while domestic one – to KM 3.5bn, was down by KM48.99m or 1.4% y/y. Bevanda noted that the newly adopted public debt management strategy is yielding results since it provides for better insight and control of public debt. Furthermore, a Public Finance Management Strategy of BiH Institutions for 2017-2020 and a Strategy for development of system of internal financial control in BiH institutions for 2016-2018 have been adopted, which created preconditions for rationalization and control of the use of public funds, control of the borrowing process, and long-term securing of macroeconomic and fiscal stability, the finance minister said. He added that mid-term and annual planning in BiH institutions has been introduced with the objective to guarantee quality management of funds and better efficiency in budget drafting.
