Hungary calls on EU to pay half of border control costs

Hungary called on the EU to pay for half of the border control expenses, announced the minister of the PM office Janos Lazar at a regular press conference on Thursday. According to the minister, some EU 400m can be requested from Brussels. The PM office announced that PM Orban has called on Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission, to provide 50% of the Hungarian border protection costs, which already amounted to EUR800m. The biggest cost goes for the electing fences along the Hungarian borders with Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia in a bid to stem the migrant flow. The government is presently mulling the construction of a new border fence along the Hungarian-Romanian border. The government also allocated additional HUF87bn for security measures this year.
