IMF trims Slovakia’s GDP growth forecast to 3.9% in 2018

The IMF projects that the economy will expand by 3.9% in 2018, according to its October WEO report published today. This represents a 0.1pp downward revision against the April forecast, but still a significant acceleration from the 3.4% expansion reported last year. The IMF thus remains more downbeat than both the government and the central bank that project 4.1% and 4% GDP growth this year with its projections thus being closer to those of the rating agencies. Although GDP growth is projected to accelerate to 4.1% in 2019, the forecast is revised downwards by 0.1pp as compared to the April WEO and is well below the national authorities forecast (4.5% each of them).
