In Hungary hospital arrears increase by 10.9% m/m

Hospital arrears continued to increase, rising by 10.9% m/m to HUF 51bn at end-October, the news portal Napi reported citing data from the Hungarian State Treasury. Almost the entire increase was due to further postponement of the settlement of arrears due for more than 60 days, the data showed. The stock of hospital arrears has increased by HUF35.2bn since the beginning of the year, translating into a monthly average arrear accumulation of HUF3.5bn. The acceleration of the arrear accumulation is not unusual for the autumn, the portal said, pointing to previous years. The process was likely related to expectations that the central government will assume the arrears as happened in the previous couple of years, in our view. The government has not indicated yet whether it plans to assume the newly accumulated hospital arrears at the end of this year as well.
