North Macedonia needs EUR150m for army modernization

The North Macedonian government needs some EUR150m to modernize the army over the long term, Defense Minister Radmila Sekerinska told local media. She noted that some EUR30m of the total amount are expected to come as donation from the US and that the government will spend EUR10-15m per year for the modernization. Sekerinska said that the modernization of the army will include the purchase of around 150 light armored vehicles and armored personnel carriers in the next five years. We note that North Macedonia is expected to become the 30th NATO member in Q1’20 if the Spanish parliament ratifies the country’s NATO accession protocol on time.
