US reportedly to introduce new sanctions on Russia

The US is going to impose new sanctions on Russia today, international media have reported, citing unnamed official sources. Several unnamed Russian oligarchs linked to Vladimir Putin and the government will be punished in connection with the alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election, according to the sources cited by the media including Reuters and the Washington Post. In the meantime, CNN reported that the team of special counsel Robert Mueller questioned two unnamed Russian oligarchs who travelled to the US and wanted to question a third one over the US presidential campaign.

Last month, the US sanctioned several Russian citizens and entities for cyberattacks, and the US together with European nations decided to expel dozens of Russian diplomats over a nerve agent attack against a former Russian double agent and his daughter in the UK. Moscow has been denying both meddling in the US elections and involvement in the UK poisoning.
