World Bank keeps 2017-18 GDP growth forecast for Albania at 3.5%

The World Bank kept its 2017 GDP growth forecast for Albania unchanged at 3.5% compared to its previous January report, according to figures from its June 2017 Global Economic Prospects report. The World Bank also kept the country’s 2018 GDP growth forecast unchanged at 3.5% compared to its previous report but raised its 2019’s projection by 0.1pp to 3.8%. Recall that in January the WB assessed that the accelerating GDP growth will reflect the improving domestic demand on the back of stronger investment growth, the disbursement of EU structural funds and the improving performance of the labor market. Still, the WB saw major risks to the forecasts stemming from the elevated sovereign debt levels and the increasing uncertainties in advanced economies, which could negatively affect trade, GDP growth and external balances.
